Frequently asked question example

Q. What is hypnosis?

A. Hypnosis is an altered state of awareness. It is a very special tool which forms a bridge between the mind and the body.In this state, the positive suggestions from Alan can reach your subconscious mind while the conscious mind remains relaxed. You will find that suggestions which have been given to you in hypnosis will resurface in your conscious, thinking mind after your hypnosis and these will be the thoughts that produce changes in your behaviour or way of thinking and feeling.

Q. When I am 'under' will I be asleep?

A. To be hypnotised is like being in a pleasantly relaxed and drowsy state. You will be aware of everything that is happening and being said the whole time.If you are attending for several sessions of Hypnotherapy you may find that you drift a little deeper on each occasion, however you will still be aware of everything around you and of what is being said.If there were an emergency during the therapy session you would immediately be fully awake and in complete control of your senses and your reactions.

Q.Can I bring someone with me to my private session? (NOT APPLICABLE FOR GROUP SESSIONS)

A. Yes you are very welcome to bring a family member or friend with you.

Q.What can I expect at the Hypnotherapy Session and how long will it last?

A. Alan will  spend some time just talking to you to understand your issue well before actually hypnotising you. This discussion time is important in order for you to talk about your problems in strictest confidence and also to set your mind at rest about any aspect that bothers you. Please allocate 50 minutes to 1hour for your appointment.

Q. Are there any side effects from hypnosis?

A. The only side effects are the beneficial ones of feeling more relaxed afterwards and feeling more positive about whatever it was you sought hypnotherapy for. Hypnosis is a perfectly natural state.

Q. How many sessions will I need?

A. This is a difficult question to answer.I have had many smokers who have stopped completely after having only ONE hypnotherapy session with me, and have also cured many people of their phobias again in only ONE session. However not all people are the same and sometimes a person may need several sessions for an issue to be dealt with and resolved.

Q. Can I eat and drink beforehand?

A. Eating and drinking in moderation beforehand will not affect the hypnotic session. It is better however not to consume a huge meal beforehand because the possible feelings of discomfort might impede your ability to relax.Equally, you should not be hungry as this too could cause distractions for you. Please do not have alcohol or caffeine before your hypnotherapy appointment.

Q. What clothes should I wear?

A. The keyword here is ‘comfort’.The more comfortable you are, the easier it will be for you to relax. It is NOT advisable therefore to wear garments that are very restricting or too tight, nor should you wear shoes that pinch. Please feel free to remove your shoes so that you can relax more.

Q.Can anyone be hypnotised?

A. With very few exceptions, anyone who wants to be hypnotised can be.The opposite is also true – if you do NOT want to be hypnotized you will not be.It is therefore important that there is trust and co-operation between yourself and Alan as this will help the hypnotherapy to be successful.
